Private Cellular Networks in Latin America

I had a cool opportunity from the WLAN Professionals to join Ferney Munoz and a bunch of new friends in Mexico City back in November. My family called me a world traveler because of my trips to WLPC Prague, Czech Republic in October and WLPC Mexico in Mexico City in November. It was such a cool opportunity to attend these international conferences and experience new cultures and meet new friends.

“Por que hablar de Celular Privada en Mexico?”

The coolest part was the ability to explore opportunities for private cellular networks in these countries. Recently, WLAN Professionals released the videos from WLPC Mexico. Above is my presentation about Private Cellular Networks in Latin American countries.

In my early twenties, I lived in Puebla, Oaxaca, and Tlaxcala Mexico for about two years. So, I have a deep love for the Mexican people. Puebla is about two hours away from Mexico City; so, WLPC Mexico felt like home. In those two years of living in Mexico, I learned and fell in love with Spanish and the Latin culture. That opportunity to live in Mexico lead to my ability to present in Spanish. The technical terms were largely new to me. Luckily, many of those terms they do not translate. They just use the english terms with a Spanish accent.

For those who do not speak Spanish, my presentation was similar to the presentation I gave at WLPC Prague, with a focus on Latin American countries.

I’ve heard of trials in Mexico with some of the carriers in sharing spectrum to be used by private industries. Celona during Mobility Field Day 9 mentioned branching into Mexico is in their roadmap moving forward. It’s currently a small opportunity for a select few organizations. Hopefully more opportunities open up to expand private cellular to more Latin American countries soon. Just like 6GHz is opening up around the world, countries are paying attention to these trials here in the United States.
